It\u2019s mild but effective and allows patients to remain calm but also conscious and alert during treatment. When the procedure is over, the effects wear off within a few minutes.<\/li><li><strong>Oral conscious sedation<\/strong> \u2013 This usually involves taking medication before your appointment so that by the time you sit down in your dentist\u2019s chair, you\u2019ll feel totally relaxed and ready for your treatment. This state of relaxation is deeper than what nitrous oxide provides, but you won\u2019t completely doze off. The effects usually last for a few hours after the procedure.<\/li><li><strong>IV sedation<\/strong> \u2013 This is for extreme cases of dental-phobia or more intensive treatment and offers the deepest form of relaxation. The medicine is injected directly into your bloodstream and begins working quickly. You will still be awake and responsive, but you probably won\u2019t remember much from the appointment afterwards.
